Wat Jitraram

Note: I have visited many Siam temples in Kedah here as well as some in Thailand, you can see them all in forum thread by follow the link here (required login), but previously i take photo using DC, this is the recent visit with photo taken using DSLR camera, which is the reason why i post in this photography blog.

Wat Jitraram located in Jitra, very near to the town area, is one of the popular temple for local. The temple is situated beside a river, November of every year will have Loy Krathong celebration on that river. People said inside of this temple you can find an old powerful monk, which is the reason why we get here today, we are lucky enough to have met him, the feeling is like discovered the treasure.

I came to this temple few years ago, at that time it is under renovation, now the temple is done renovated but the Ubosot still under repairing because few months ago inside of Ubosot caught fire caused of candles, the fire has cause some damaged to the wall, ceiling, floor and fans. Now they are carry out the interior construction work. The Ubosot look beautiful under the blue sky and white clouds.

Main door guarded by the Jaturkam deva.

Inside of Ubosot can still see some black smoke on the ceiling, damaged fans has been replaced, a worker is painting something.

Nicely decorated fence with devas statue.

Kutti of former abbot Than Lim, i got his takrut few years ago when i came here.

Some other smaller temple around the area.

Medium size of temple area.

Main office, this is the place where you will meet the current abbot from BKK. He has appointed as the abbot there, but actually the registered abbot of this temple is another local monk, will show his photo later. Inside of lomtam you will find a small amulet counter, i rent the takrut of Than Lim from here few years ago, but today i cant find it anymore. When i was there i saw the abbot is teaching 2 gals reading.

This building is main hall, or kitchen, or monk resident, i dont know, this is the place we met that old monk. When i take the photo around, a guy approached me and asked who am i and what im doing here, i asked him back, is there any problem? He said no, i just want to know who you are represent, government, magazine, etc, i said no, i just want to take the photo and introduce it on the internet for people to know about this temple. He is very friendly, tell us lot of temple things and later introduce us to that old monk.

I asked that guy if there is an old monk here, i heard people said he is very old and powerful, as i heard people said, he can spell the magic to ask the rain cloud away, during temple events when it is going to rain, that old monk will perform the magic and immediately those black rain clouds will move aside and sun light will appear, extremely amazing. The guy said yes, he is here and there he is, he point inside the building and i an old monk sitting on wheelchair, i was shocked when i saw him, dont know why, hard to explain, maybe i never saw such an old monk, lot of respects for him. He asked me to open the door cause he want to go out, i open the door and help him to pull the wheelchair to outside. I want to take his photo, he was old and had become hard of hearing, that guy help me to explain to him, he then took about 5 minutes to dress up properly before i can take his photo.

60 solid years of monkhood, that guy said even until today he never forget to follow the buddha restrictions, he said that day he got fever and need to take medi, but it was 10pm in the night, they advise him to take 2 piece of bread before medi but he insisted not to eat anything because monk only can eat once in a day during lunch time. All i can say is, i have lot of respect for him.

That guy said he is one of the student of famous master LP Lindam (Portan Orcid) of Wat Naka, he has learned many magic spell from LP Lindam during the time when LP Lindam still around. I asked isn't that LP Lindam only has 2 student, CK Bao of Wat Kalai and Portan Yong of Wat Bakar Bata, he said yes but he is also considered as student of LP Limdam because his kasaya was presented by LP Limdam and he got learned many from him, thats what i heard, i forgot some and some because i dont really understand those terms in Siam Buddhism. I asked if this old monk can do anything else beside of keep the raining clouds away, he said he was famous with spell on peppercorn, those naughty and bad in study kids after eating the peppercorn that spelled by him, will turn good and hardworking in study. He told me his personal experience, he said few weeks ago during evening time he feel like getting sick, body very tired, cold and no energy, continued for many days, at last he came to find this old monk and after received the lucky wrist robe, all those sick feeling gone away immediately. Sounds very powerful, i asked to have 1 too, he then explain to that old monk, and from the back of the wheelchair he took out those white robe, chant a while before giving to us.

Oh btw the old monk name is LP Chuang, 89 years old if not mistaken, you should pay him a visit if possible, the only discipline of LP Lindam that still living today.

Temple event is: 8/31 Phapa, Kathina (offering saffron robes) and Loy Krathong on November. Currently there are 12 monks there.

This is the picture of current registered abbot of this temple, local people, rank is Maha if not mistaken.

There is a nice Thai restaurant beside of this temple, name is 泰湖, lot of peoples like to eat there for delicious Thai food, we stopped at this restaurant to eat and drink, 3pm in the afternoon, half sky hang, just finished lunch, not yet to dinner, so call it high tea time? lolz.

Taste of foods? Cant complain, 80/100.
