Wat Kalai

Note: I have visited many Siam temples in Kedah here as well as some in Thailand, you can see them all in forum thread by follow the link here (required login), but previously i take photo using DC, this is the recent visit with photo taken using DSLR camera, which is the reason why i post in this photography blog.

Newly constructed temple gate of Wat Kalai, just launched last year.

A 200 years old Theravada Buddhism temple, Wat Kalai is located in Kampung Kalai, Jeniang, Gurun. If you came from Gurun and want to visit Wat Kura or Wat Sungai Siput you will surely pass through it. Been to this temple once long time ago and met the current young abbot which is the relative son of Chao Kun Bao (former and famous abbot), but this time we reach there lately and not going to meet any abbot, just want to take the photo of that huge buddha to share it here.

This gigantic sitting Buddha is the landmark of Wat Kalai, 70 feet tall sitting majestically in a meditation pose against the blue sky, it was built in 1984 under the command of Chao Kun Bao if not mistaken. Though it is huge but you hardly see it from outside, it is hidden inside the temple only those who has clear mind will spot it out, lolz.

Under the sitting buddha is actually a place for people to put ashes, but it was closed and it looks dark and dirty, this place need to form a new management to get it back to the glory era where it used to be. You can find statue such Kuan Yin, Sivali, Water God and a pool of water all fit into a square of land together with that huge buddha.

This is the temple of former and famous abbot Chao Kun Bao. Chao Kun Bao is also the student of another famous Luang Phor Lin Dam (black tongue) from Wat Naka. Chao Kun Bao is famous with his Sivichai amulet.

This temple is actually very big and the location is very nice with few river flowing behind it. You can hear the water running sound, the feel is very closed to mother nature.

I walked to the back and find out a small route to a river, i notice a monk is sitting there, he must be pondering of something, or just try to relax.

I moved toward the location of Ubosot. It looks kinda old, not very big, simple design, a humble Ubosot of Wat Kalai. There are few old statues guarded the Ubosot.

Another small gate nearby Ubosot, i saw few villagers came through it, it must be a village on the other side.

Saw this monk is doing something on the ground, i approached him and say hi. He is from BKK, he said he want to collect the candle to burn with leaf, i guessed so, since i cant understand Thai.

More old statues and building.

Lomtam (place where abbot meet devotees) is closed. There is an amulet counter there, you can still find the amulet created and blessed by CK Bao himself 23 years ago at the extremely affordable price, RM30 only, rent 1 when i was here last time.

Another river deep under the land of temple, some pinang trees grows beside the river, waving under the blue sky in the late afternoon of Wat Kalai!
